What Are The Caseloads of Probation Departments In Illinois?
Between 1988 and 1998, adult probation caseloads in Illinois increased 45%, rising from fewer than 61,000 in 1988 to more tnan 110,000 in 1998.
In Bond County, between 1988 and 1998, adult probation increased 258%, rising from 95 in 1988 to 340 in 1998.
What Are The Characteristics Of Adult Probationers?
In 1995, the Administrative Office of the Illinois Courts conducted a survey of probationers in Illinois which yielded the following:
- 19% of probation caseloads were women.
- 35% of adult probationers were betweent the ages of 21 and 30 and 28% were 31 to 40 years old.
- 56% were white and 32% were African-American.
- 46% reported having an educational achievement level below the 12th grade and more than 34% were unemployed.
In Bond County, this type of information was not compiled until 1997. According to the records compiled by the Bond County Probation Department, in 1998:
- 25% of the probation caseload were women.
- 35% of adult probationers were between the ages of 21 and 300 and 21% were 31 to 40 years old.
- 89% were white and 9% were African-American.
- 40% reported having an educational achievement level below the 12th grade and 38% were unemployed.
